Genavie Castle writes with a modern, direct style that effortlessly blends raw emotion, explicit tension and fast-paced action. Themes of danger, power and survival run through the story and give it a dark, intense atmosphere. ‘Family Rules’ is told through multiple perspectives and moves smoothly between present, past and carefully placed memories. These shifts in time are clearly marked and genuinely enhance the story, offering deeper insight into the characters’ motivations, fears and loyalties.
What makes the story stand out is the psychological dynamic between the three main characters. Saoirse evolves from a girl who lives according to others’ rules into a woman who makes her own choices, strong, layered, wounded and determined. Josiah embodies the classic alpha with a conscience, while Deacon provides a quieter but unwavering presence beside him. The romance is intense but never overwhelming; the suspense woven around it makes this book richer and more complete than a typical dark romance.
‘Family Rules’ is the third book in the Sentinel series. It can be read as a standalone, but the previous books add emotional depth and context.

Deze tijdsprongen zijn helder aangegeven en voegen echt iets toe: ze geven inzicht in de drijfveren, angsten en loyaliteit van de personages.
Wat het verhaal bijzonder maakt, is de psychologische dynamiek tussen de drie hoofdpersonages. Saoirse groeit van een meisje dat geleefd wordt naar een vrouw die haar eigen keuzes maakt, krachtig, gelaagd, beschadigd én vastberaden. Josiah is de typische alfa met een geweten, terwijl Deacon de stille, loyale kracht naast hem vormt. De romance is intens, maar nooit overheersend; de spanningslijn eromheen maakt dit boek rijker en completer dan een doorsnee dark romance.
‘Family Rules’ is het derde deel van de Sentinel-serie. Het is op zichzelf te lezen, maar de eerdere delen zorgen voor extra emotionele lading en context.
