Sharon Woods’ writing style is accessible and strongly focused on the romance and emotions between Amelia and Adrian. The story moves at a pleasant pace, making it a fast and engaging read. The dialogue adds to the tension between the characters and keeps the story flowing naturally. The setting is vividly described, giving the reader the feeling of walking through the town themselves. The atmosphere of community spirit, where everyone helps one another, is beautifully balanced with the downside of small-town life, where gossip spreads quickly and secrets are hard to keep, adding depth to the story.
Amelia and Adrian share a natural and compelling dynamic that develops step by step. The emotional growth within their relationship is particularly well-executed and forms the heart of the story. Doubts, expectations, and personal boundaries play an important role in this development. While the supporting characters are sometimes less fully developed, the strong focus on the main characters ensures that this does not detract from the story.

De medische roman ‘Doctor’s Secret Match’ speelt zich af in een hechte gemeenschap waar iedereen elkaar kent en waar niets onopgemerkt blijft. De journaliste Amelia schrijft een artikel over de nieuwe dokter Adrian die zich in de stad heeft gevestigd. Om een persoonlijk interview te kunnen afnemen bedenkt Amelia een fundraiser voor een medisch apparaat voor het plaatselijke ziekenhuis. Wat begint als een samenwerking die allesbehalve soepel verloopt verandert langzaam in een geheime relatie waarbij professionele grenzen steeds verder vervagen.
De schrijfstijl van Sharon Woods is toegankelijk en sterk gericht op de romantiek en emoties tussen Amelia en Adrian. Het tempo ligt prettig hoog waardoor het verhaal vlot leest en de aandacht gemakkelijk vastgehouden wordt. Dialogen dragen bij aan de onderlinge spanning en zorgen voor een natuurlijke voortgang van het verhaal. De setting wordt levendig beschreven waardoor het voelt alsof de lezer zelf door de straten van de gemeenschap loopt. De sfeer van saamhorigheid waarin iedereen elkaar helpt wordt mooi gecombineerd met de keerzijde van het dorpsleven waar roddels zich snel verspreiden en geheimen moeilijk verborgen blijven wat het verhaal extra gelaagd maakt.
Amelia en Adrian hebben een fijne en natuurlijke dynamiek die zich stap voor stap ontwikkelt. Vooral de emotionele groei binnen hun relatie is zorgvuldig opgebouwd en vormt het hart van het verhaal. Twijfels verwachtingen en persoonlijke grenzen spelen hierin een belangrijke rol. De bijpersonages blijven soms wat oppervlakkig maar doordat de focus duidelijk ligt op de hoofdpersonages en hun ontwikkeling doet dit weinig af aan het geheel.
‘Doctor’s Secret Match’ is een romantische en toegankelijke medische roman die met een vlot tempo en warme sfeer laat zien hoe liefde kan ontstaan op de meest onverwachte momenten.
